Steak Stuffed Peppers



5 large bell peppers

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 large onions, peeled and sliced

8 ounces sliced mushrooms

1 pound finely sliced steak

1/2 teaspoon steak sauce

1 cup shredded cheese of choice




  1. Cut all peppers, but 1 in half (long way) and take seeds out.
  2. Cut the remaining peppers and chop it
  3. In a sauté pan, melt the butter with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes
  4. Add the chopped peppers and mushrooms. Cook until mushrooms are golden and the peppers are tender. Set this aside.
  5. Cook the shaved steak, stirring, until evenly browned
  6. Add the onion and pepper mixture back to the pan. Season the mixture with salt and pepper and the steak sauce.
  7. Heat the oven to 400 F. Line a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan
  8. Fill a large pan with salt water, enough to cover the peppers. Boil the water, then add the peppers for several minutes
  9. Arrange peppers in baking dish. Fill each pepper with the steak and onion mixture. Top each filled bell pepper with a generous amount of shredded cheese.
  10. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until inside is hot.
